Depending on which casino you play at, a Baccarat variant called Mini Baccarat can be found in both real and online casinos.
This game has lower minimum bets than regular Baccarat but with the same house margins, making it a popular choice for those with less bankroll. Mini Baccarat follows the same rules as its older brother, with a few differences:
- There is only one dealer instead of three in a casino;
- The game takes place on a table half the size of the regular Baccarat table. It is semi-circular and has spaces for only 7 players instead of 14;
- The dealer deals the cards face up.

History of Baccarat
Baccarat game is one of the oldest casino games played today. It is an elegant game believed to have been introduced to France in the late 15th century.
The original game was called “Chemin de Fer”, and was a popular game among the French nobility due to the very high cost of printing cards in the days when printing was still something new.
It became popular in the 1990s when, during the reign of King Louis Phillip, playing card games for money was made illegal in 1837, making the game clandestine. This coupled with increased printing capabilities spread the game across all social classes. Despite this, Baccarat was able to retain its aura of royalty to this day.
The game was then taken to the Americas through European immigration, and another variant developed called “Punto Banco”, famous in the casinos in Mar Del Plata in Argentina which can still be played today in many casinos.
From here, it was taken to Las Vegas casinos in the 1950s where it was introduced alongside the most popular Blackjack and Craps games and became an essential casino game.
Finally in the 1980s, casinos introduced the Mini-Baccarat. The creation of Mini-Baccarat was made to make the game more accessible to the masses. Baccarat typically has much higher thresholds than other casino table games. Areas delineated with ropes are typically reserved for high rollers.
If they try to enter a high-stakes area in sleeves and flip-flops, they’ll likely be asked to leave and come back in more suitable clothing (or they won’t at all). This will not be the case in Mini-Baccarat.
